Are you including my bench? If so, the bench is essentially just placeholders because I have to own players. The starting 11 will be playing almost 100% of the games.
No, I'm referring to the fact that half of your starters are either unproven in the league or unproven on their current team. You're wasting a lot of money/starting spots on a gamble. Marshall, Horst, and Pappa are all new to their respective teams, so who knows how they start the season off. Diaz is unproven. Fernandez is unproven. Frei is unproven. So that's 6 of your starting 11 that could be easily replaced by starters who have actually consistently produced season to season.
While it is true that many of these players are unproven for their current team, I have faith in them based on their historical production for other teams, the role they'll play in their current team, and the preseason they had. Yes, it is a risk, but one I think will pan out just fine points-wise and net me some income as well.
Great advice for someone not very familiar with the MLS, thanks. Diaz, Fernandez and Frei might be unproven but so far, so good. I currently have Castillo instead of Diaz. How do you rate him as a fantasy option by comparison with Diaz? I picked him because of his youth and his decent preseason. I'd also like to quiz you on why you went with Davis over Morales?
If you can find the extra 0.5 to get Diaz, I would. Castillo is fine for the price, but I think Diaz will earn so many more points that shaving 0.5 elsewhere is worth it to get Diaz.
The only thing I would say about your team is that you are very heavy on a few teams (Seattle, Portland, Houston, and Dallas), with few options from other teams. If you don't plan well for bye weeks, or even if one or two of those teams just has a really bad week, you will really be hurting. It also means you are missing value with some other teams such as Philadelphia which has a great schedule to start the season and has lots of potential value on its roster (Maidana MacMath etc.).
Too many unproven players on that current squad. Don't like what I see there.

ReplyDeleteYep, this team was built with the intent of using wildcard week 3 or 4. The teams I picked from to start the season had really strong schedules early.
